We’ve been running Axon Server 2024.1.2 on one of our environments for about half a year. Then out of the blue it started to produce “invalid chunk” H2 error messages: default paste at 2025-10-07 10:25:30
I suspect this could be related to the fact that we are running Ephemeral Event Store where it is constantly cleaned up, and in turn H2 also constantly “rotates” some metadata (?).
We tried to recover from the situation by nuking Event Store. This didn’t help however. We had to delete H2 database with all users/API keys and their configuration too.
I found this H2 issue Question about Chunk.MAX_ID · Issue #4052 · h2database/h2database · GitHub which was fixed in H2 2.3 and 2.4 series Allow 0 as a valid chunk id by andreitokar · Pull Request #4057 · h2database/h2database · GitHub.
I also see that recent Axon Server versions have some updates regarding H2 database.
Does anybody know if such issue is known and if it fixed in newer Axon Server version?
Does anybody know what exactly is stored in H2 in relation to the event store? I’ve always assumed that H2 only stores user data and configuration, but nothing related to the event store, hence we never included it in our daily Axon Server backups. Should we backup H2 database in sync with the event store?
